LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy in Essex County, NJ
Therapy where your identity is the starting point, never the problem to be solved. For queer, trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming folks across Bloomfield, Montclair, and all of New Jersey.

Finding a therapist who truly gets it, who doesn't flinch, doesn't ask you to educate them, and doesn't treat your identity as a symptom, shouldn't be this hard. But for a lot of queer, trans, and nonbinary folks in New Jersey, it still is.
I'm Katie Crank (she/they), and I built Care Collective to be the kind of affirming space I wish more people had access to. Here, your gender and sexuality aren't problems to be solved or topics to get 'past' so we can do the 'real' work. They're part of you, and they're welcome in the room from the very first session.
I offer LGBTQ+ affirming therapy in person at my Bloomfield, NJ office and online to clients anywhere in New Jersey, serving Montclair, Glen Ridge, Newark, and the wider Essex County community.
Identity, on your terms
Space to explore gender and sexuality without an agenda or a finish line. You set the pace; I follow your lead.
Minority stress & trauma
The chronic stress of discrimination is real and it adds up. Using EMDR and other trauma-informed tools, we can take the charge out of painful experiences.
Coming out & relationships
Whether it's family, partners, faith communities, or work, we'll work through the hard conversations and protect your energy.
Self-trust & self-compassion
Years of being 'othered' can leave a harsh inner voice. We'll work on building one that's actually on your side.
What working together looks like
A free, low-key consult
We start with a free 15-minute call. You share what's bringing you in; I answer questions about how I work. No pressure to commit.
We build from your story
Early sessions are about getting to know you and what you want, not a stack of intake forms about what's 'wrong.'
Real, affirming work
We weave together approaches like EMDR, IFS, and parts work to fit your goals, in person in Bloomfield or online across NJ.
In person in Essex County, and online across NJ
I'm one of relatively few therapists in Essex County offering LGBTQ+ affirming care in person. If sitting in the same physical room matters to you, and for a lot of folks, it really does, my Bloomfield office is a short drive from Montclair, Glen Ridge, Newark, Nutley, and Belleville.
Questions about lgbtq+ affirming therapy
Still wondering about something? The free consult is the perfect place to ask.
What does 'LGBTQ+ affirming therapy' actually mean?
It means your identity is treated as a healthy, valid part of who you are, never the cause of your distress and never something we need to 'fix.' Practically, that looks like correct names and pronouns, real knowledge of queer and trans experiences, and a therapist (me, she/they) who shares lived community connection.
Do you work with trans and nonbinary clients specifically?
Yes. I support trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming folks across the whole journey, questioning, exploring, transitioning, or simply living your life. I can also provide letters of support where appropriate after we've worked together.
I'm not in crisis, is therapy still for me?
Absolutely. You don't need a crisis or a diagnosis to deserve support. Plenty of clients come in simply feeling stuck, isolated, or ready to understand themselves more deeply.
Can we meet in person, or is it online only?
Both. I offer in-person sessions at my Bloomfield, NJ office and secure online therapy to anyone located in New Jersey. Many clients do a hybrid of both.
You don't have to figure this out alone.
